Please allow us to take a moment to introduce you to the church of Christ in Anderson and invite you to come visit with us. Our building is located near Westside High School on Pearman Dairy Road (US Hwy Bypass 28).
We are trying to be a loving, God-fearing family of God’s children. We care about one another and encourage each other to grow stronger in our knowledge and service to God.
We believe in Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world because God teaches us through the Bible that, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16, NIV). In God’s love for mankind, He gave us His very best.
NO MAN-MADE RULES
When God sent His Son to the earth, He gave Him all authority in heaven and on earth, (Matt. 28:18) We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God, complete for all good works and furnishes us with everything we need to know. (1 Tim. 3:16-17) The Bible tells us how to be saved and become a child of God, how to worship Him and how to live according to His instructions.
OUR PURPOSE FOR EXISTING
We believe that God wants us to come together to encourage one another to remain faithful to Him: to resist the temptations of life, such as our busy schedules; our many choices of entertainment; our hobbies and other things that we like to do. All of these things can keep us away from God and keep us from growing in our love for Him.
We also believe that God wants us to reach out to the Anderson community, to those who desire to share in God’s love and become a member of a loving family.
WHAT TO EXPECT IF YOU VISIT WITH US
You will find the church of Christ family in Anderson to be a friendly and loving group of people. You will be welcome.
Our service to God will be conducted in a decent and orderly fashion. We partake of the Lord’s supper every Sunday to remember the death of Jesus on the cross. We sing praises to God in a cappella, we have an opportunity to give back part of what God has blessed us with materially, and there is always a message from the word of God.
HOW DOES ONE BECOME A PART OF GOD’S FAMILY?
It is not our place to choose who shall be a member of God’s family. Acts 2:47 teaches that those who are obedient to God are added by Him to His church. The obedient are those who have obeyed the gospel of Jesus Christ (Rom. 10:16; 1 Thess. 1:8) and have received Jesus (John 1:12) as the Lord of their lives (Acts 2:36). The Bible teaches that the gospel is the good news of what Jesus has done for all of us. It is the news that went out to the whole world concerning the way that God is able to receive people back to Him as their Father. This gospel is the news that Jesus went to the cross, died for the sins of mankind, rose from the grave (1 Cor. 15:1-4) and through His blood (Eph. 1:7) each person can be brought back to God, be saved from their sins and find a new relationship with their Father in Heaven.
God Himself placed the world under sin and condemnation (Rom. 3:9, 23). When Jesus came to this earth, He did not come to condemn mankind, but to save mankind. Mankind was already under condemnation (John 3:16-18.) This meant that no person could ever be with the Father in eternity because their sins had separated them from their God (Isaiah 59:1-2.) Jesus was God’s way of making it possible for man to walk with Him again in a right relationship without sin. When a person believes in his heart the teachings concerning Jesus, accepts these to be true, and willingly desires to commit himself to God, that person can become a part of God’s great family. His obedience is the fact that he has obeyed the gospel by believing in Jesus, by repenting of his sins and by being immersed (baptized) into Jesus for the remission of his sins (Acts 2:36-38; Rom. 6:3-5.) He now is added to God’s family and seeks to live for Jesus everyday of his life. Jesus has become the Lord of His life.
